Hollrr is an online application for sharing information about products and services. Businesses may list their products on Hollrr in hopes that customers will go to the site to offer positive feedback. This provides word-of-mouth advertising, which is a powerful marketing tool for small businesses. For customers, it is an outlet for recommending new products or services to friends and other site users.Show more screenshots »
David Hegarty is the Chief Hollrr of Hollrr.com. He created Hollrr in 2009 because he believes that the best new discoveries are those based on recommendations from friends. The site averages 12,000 unique visitors per month.
Hollrr is unique in its approach to promoting business by using word-of-mouth in a dedicated social media application that can be integrated with Twitter and Facebook.
The home screen is busy and cluttered, but it is easy to use the search box to find the desired product or service for review. Once on the product page, users can read comments and choose to “Hollrr this” and add their own reviews, as well as indicating whether to also post the content to Facebook or Twitter. Reviews are limited to 200 characters.
Users may follow people on Hollrr, as with Twitter, and may “like” or “comment” similar to Facebook. Badges are awarded for various levels of use on the site. Points are awarded as well. The overall reward system is eerily similar to Foursquare.
Product owners may list products on Hollrr and download a button for use on their company websites. If customers follow, their “Tribe” grows, meaning that they have a group of dedicated customers shouting their praises. This is most certainly an advantage for small businesses wishing to grow through user recommendations.
The help section is accessed by link at the very bottom of each page. It provides a basic overview and instructions for those having difficulty navigating the site.
Users may sign in with Facebook or by providing a name, email address, and password. An email containing an activation code is generated to confirm signup. Users can then connect their existing Twitter accounts.
There are no fees associated with use of Hollrr.
There are three main groups who would benefit from Hollrr: businesses wishing to capitalize on a social media word-of-mouth marketing strategy; consumers who enjoy sharing reviews of excellent products and services; and consumers researching products and services who appreciate user recommendations.
